Cardboard Club

Spring 2025

The origin story of this six-week club is one for the books.
Most people go to a fashion show wearing something made of fabric. I went “wearing” a cardboard spaceship and helmet. After the event, a father and his daughter walked up to me and asked about the helmet. They turned out to be connected with a nearby church that had a cardboard city and ended up hiring me for an outreach called “Wonderspace Play” to lead half a dozen art workshops for kids ages 8-14. It was a BLAST. I wish I could have gotten more pictures, but due to the nature of the organization, photography was limited.
Regardless, my self-made curriculum taught me a TON, which you can read about in several blog posts including:

So if you want to read more, there are plenty of ramblings about it!

Here are each of the workshops:

Meeting #1: Skills Workshop

This series was designed for a group of kids to come back each week for the six weeks, and have the meetings build on each other. So of course, the first meeting was developed to be a skills workshop that would introduce kids to the tools we would use in the coming weeks.

The “Agenda” (image 1) was my guide for what to say—the talking points of the meeting, and the trifold (image 2) was a handout for each kid.
